Stephen W. Kuffler contributed to neuroscience through his exceptional discoveries, as well as by selecting and mentoring pupils who later became leaders in their fields. Among many world leaders, he supervised and mentored the Nobel Laurates David H. Hubel, Torsten Wiesel and Eric R. Kandel. To celebrate his work and achievements, as well as to recognise his lasting influence, the Foundation aims to support the scientific development of young talents in life sciences.
The Aims of the Foundation:
- Remember Stephen Kuffler for his pioneering discoveries, originality and scientific leadership by an annual Stephen Kuffler Lecture at the Department of Pharmacology, Oxford University.
- Recognise and reward exceptionally original research achievement anywhere in the World by students in neuroscience with a Stephen Kuffler Research Award.
- Provide an internet platform for previous Stephen Kuffler Awardees for communicating with each other and neuroscientists in the World, presenting scientific ideas, achievements and views in the tradition of Stephen Kuffler.
